Heresies

What is a heresy? A heresy is the obstinate denial by a baptized person of some truth that must be believed with divine faith. Heresies were extremely popular in the early years of the Church. There are not as much heresies nowadays, but there are still some. The early heresies mainly focused on attacking the nature of Jesus. Some thought that he didn't have a human mind or will (Apollinarism), and some thought that he was two people each with a divine and human nature (Nestorianism). I wasn't planning on talking about early heresies  because most high school theology classes teach those. I was going to focus on later heresies. One interesting one i found out was Reincarnationism. This is the Belief that certain people are or can be reincarnations of biblical figures, such as Jesus Christ. Another popular one is Americanism-A group of related heresies which were defined as the endorsement of freedom of the press, liberalism, individualism, and separation of church and state, as an insistence upon individual initiative, what could be incompatible with the principle of Catholicism of obedience to authority. This heresy was condemned by Pope Leo XIII in 1899. All these heresies are staring to die down, and some new ones are staring to spur up. But all in all, heresies have always been around and will always be around. But, the Church will keep fighting them, and winning too.

Here is a great site where you can read more about heresies with some good answers from some educated Catholics: http://www.catholic.com/tracts/the-great-heresies

All Merciful

Hello, today I will blog about God being all merciful. God is all merciful to those who want his mercy. We all have the option to choose God over evil. If we are truly sorry for what we have done then God will forgive us. God does not hold grudges or get mad at us. God always gives us the option to ask for forgiveness. God understands everything going on in our life. Being merciful is a great attribute many people strive for. To be merciful you must be truly kind and understanding. God is all good and all understanding of everything. Jesus showed us his mercy throughout the Bible. We should strive to be like Jesus and be merciful towards those who ask for it. We should forgive and help people out who have done wrong.

All Powerful

Hello, today I am going to speak about God being all powerful. Many people here this and think the wrong thing about God. God is free to do as He pleases. Many people question why bad things happen, and if God is all powerful then why did he not stop them from happening. God has the ability to perform any act. He is omnipotent and the greatest figure ever. God gave us free will and the ability to think and choose on our own. God does not perform bad things onto us. God does not do any wrong to us. He has the power to do anything good. He does not perform bad. God can do anything consistent with his holy character. One example of God showing His power is in the creation of the world.

Catholic Rites

Hello, today i will be blogging about Catholic Rites. First of all the Church is an assembly of all the faithful worshiping our Lord. We are all joined in one in the Mystical Body of Christ. The Church is universal and deals with people all around the world. Every member of the Catholic faith is one. Therefore we are all joined together in one way of worship.  There are also rites. "Rite is the liturgical, theological, spiritual and disciplinary heritage, distinguished according to peoples' culture and historical circumstances, that finds expression in each autonomous church's way of living the faith." A rite concerns with people theology, worship, and spirituality. All of these are connected with the Church. The Church gives these other members a rite to the heritage.

My Service Hours

My sophomore service hours experience was terrific. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was looking forward to the experience I would get from my sophomore service hours. I worked at an organization called Casa Esperanza. Casa Esperanza is a safe place for children affected by abuse, neglect, or HIV. Casa Esperanza provides residential care for these children. During my duties there my friend and I had just one job, to play with the kids and to do whatever they wanted. This service experience was the best one I have ever had. Not only was it the most rewarding but it was a ton of fun. Some of the kids I meant were awesome and totally hilarious, and some were shy. When we visited my friend and I would play with them in the park, play basketball, play soccer, or even give out candy and help decorate cookies. This service project has better strengthened my faith in God. Seeing these kids and hearing some of their stories make me realize how much I actually have and that I should be grateful. Going to a Jesuit school means adopting the Jesuit learning experience-Man for others-and applying that to your daily life. This may be the best motto to live by. These service projects give me an opportunity to see how some kids have to live. I am so blessed with such a great life and such a great school that being a Man for Others is that much more important. I think that all Christians are called to some form of service, be it soup kitchen, mission trips, or just any community service to help out. We all have a calling, a calling from God to live a holy life and give to those less fortunate. I have come to realize that “giving to those less fortunate” doesn't just mean giving them money, but giving them your time as well. I met this one girl during my service at Casa Esperanza, we passed the soccer ball back and forth for about 2 hours. I soon realized that the little girl didn't care too much about that; she just wanted someone to talk to. We talked for a very long time and it made me realize that what I was doing for very important to these children. She pretty much told me the story of her life up to now, she was only 6. I had other great experiences at Casa Esperanza as well. My friend and I played basketball, soccer, and a lot of other sports with this great group of kids. I had an amazing time. I think that we are all meant and called to do God’s work, and for these service hours, I answered that call. All in all this whole experience was great and made me realize what it truly means to receive a Jesuit education.

Acting like Jesus

Hello ladies and gentlemen. Today I watched the masters and noticed something very important in life. Sportsmanship.  After losing the most important golf tournament of the year in playoffs, Angel Cabrera congratulated the victor and celebrated with him. Angel had the right to be angry and mean to his competitor. As I saw this I realized how Jesus taught us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. We should always act with the utmost respect to other children of God. We should extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Angel Cabrera is a perfect example of how we should act to our fellow man. We should strive to show the compassion and love Jesus showed each and every one of us.
